Ronald Bonner - New Board President with a Collector's Touch

As the year comes to a close and we look forward to an exciting 2014, we’re pleased to introduce our new Board President, Ronald Bonner. A native of Shreveport, Bonner first arrived at the museum five years ago as a volunteer, assisting with the Museum of Fear. Since then, he has dedicated himself to the mission of the museum. He remains committed to ensuring the museum is an exciting destination for science-lovers of all ages.

It’s safe to say that Bonner loves museums. So much, in fact, that he’s got one of his very own! As an avid Coca-Cola™ memorabilia collector, he has curated an impressive display showcasing his love for the brand. It includes hundreds of truly unique pieces spanning the history of the soft drink company.

It’s a great time for Lafayette Science Museum, and Bonner says he looks forward to maintaining that momentum. “Coming in behind the previous board president (Maurice “Sonny” Cazaubon, Jr.), I have some really big shoes to fill. Sonny did an amazing job of helping to turn this museum around, and I’m excited to continue his work. Keep an eye on the museum — it’s only going to keep getting better and better,” he shared.

The Holidays are Here At The Museum!

Stockings are hung, trees are trimmed, and we’re huddled over steaming bowls of gumbo. It’s Christmastime in Acadiana! Here at the museum, we are ringing in the holiday season. And, we can’t wait to show you what’s new!

First, you’ve got to meet our new fishy friends from the deep. Our interactive, virtual aquarium brings a world of colorful creatures to the museum - and right at your fingertips! You can also discover beautiful designs from UL Lafayette’s Architecture and Industrial Design students. These brilliant buildings and clever inventions add to our already stellar lineup of planetarium programs and permanent exhibits.

With kids out of school and relatives in town, Lafayette Science Museum offers something for all ages and is the perfect place to keep those minds active during the winter break. We will close at noon on Christmas Eve and be closed all day on Christmas...but we’ll be here for the rest of 2013, offering you a warm place to have some holiday fun!

This Mammoth New Exhibit Will Really Rock

Have you ever wanted to travel back in time? Your chance is just around the corner! We are excited to announce that Lafayette Science Museum is partnering with UL Lafayette's Geoscience Department to showcase an impressive collection of fossils and minerals. Slated to open in May 2014, the exhibit will show you the science behind amazing minerals and Earth's prehistoric past.

The Geology Research Exhibit will give you the opportunity to observe the research and preparation of fossils and mineral by UL Lafayette's staff and students. You'll get an up-close look at a mounted Columbian mammoth skeletal cast accompanied by locally found mammoth fossils, proof that these great beasts once roamed Acadiana.

In addition to these fascinating fossils, the university's extensive geology collection will also be on display to the public for the very first time. Don’t miss it!
